Existing tennis and basketball court pavement has become unusable and unsafe after 20 years. LLA was retained by the Henkel Corporation to perform a design study for improvements and upgrades to the recreation facilities on the campus of their Rocky Hill headquarters. The project was completed over the summer and returned to use in the Fall of 2019.Įstimated Cost: $ 560,000 (complete project) The long jump, pole vault and high jump were completely reconstructed with complete new pavement and surface.
The resilient running surface was installed after a period for curing of the new pavement and after all the cracks were repaired. Bid documents carried an allowance and per linear foot price for this work. Crack repair “tape” was also used on the existing pavement that was untouched with smaller cracks. The straightaway was milled down 1 1/2-inches and the underlying cracks were repaired using a crack repair “tape,” then overlaid with new bituminous pavement. The pavement on the opposite side of the track and other curve was in very good condition. The major cracks were in the main straightaway and one curve. Instead, the plans called for stripping the exiting rubberized surface, repairing the cracks, repaving a section and then installing a new, 1/2-inch latex running surface.
Due to budget constraints, BPS could not afford complete replacement. LLA inspected the site and prepared a summary report and detailed cost estimate with various options for repair or complete replacement. Originally built in 2001, the surface has been peeling away and there are large cracks on one side of the oval with numerous cracks throughout.īPS had set aside monies for reconstruction in their 2019 budget. Belchertown Public Schools retained LLA to provide construction documents and contract administration for the renovation of the existing track at the High School.
